Overhead tonneau cover?

Who here knows where i can get a tonneau cover like this?

update i just noticed that this is a jimmy, despite that does anybody know if there is such thing as a tonneau cover that is on scissor hinges like this?
It would be perfect because i will be using my truck to haul my bike around, and on a hot track day it would be nice to have shade to sit in.

I'd imagine if you were a little handy you could copy the design from the K5 bikini top with some thin wall tube and marine fabric/snaps.

Man that looks a lot like the top of a jeep somebody rigged in place. From the looks of the hinge i dont see that being a bed cover as much as it is folding down into the back of the bed. The frame on that thing goes back not down.

Couldnt be that hard to just make one yourself. Get a hard cover and use conduit for poles. Attach two to the cover on sliding cabinet hardware and the other two to opposite side of the bed on a hinges. Raise the side not attached to the cover and lift conduit "legs" into place on the opposing side. Done. You can paint the conduit black and if your feeling fancy use stainless hardware.

Besttop and Soft Topper make those for pickups. Guy just posted a big blue truck on here in a wheel thread with one, I believe. They're readily avaialble.
There is still an outfit I think that will make them for K5s. Although I imaging the demand for those has dropped sharply considering the newest K5 is about 30 years old and most sport hard tops.

They are expensive new. Got mine used on Craigslist for around $200. It is made by Softopper. They make them for trucks along with full size Broncos/Blazers. They have a screen you can put in place of the rear window for ventilation for camping, or if you keep dogs back there.
The sides and the back roll up and then you clip them up for the safari look.

It has been very nice. Water proof. Survived going over 100 mph (once). I can camp under it. Can fold it down in a few minutes.

Thanks for the pictures, I've been considering one for my truck, not to camp in but because I'm in Washington and we get a lot of rain, having a dry space can be very valuable, but I also have to haul stuff that would be to tall, and sometimes to wide. I've thought about getting a conventional canopy, but it's a pain taking it on and off every few weeks in the winter. So hopefully you don't mind me asking a few quesitons.

#1. I understand that the frame is clamped to the bed rail, is it very heavy duty, if something were to hit it would it be bent easy?

#2. got any pics of it folded down?

I guess it depends on how it gets hit. I've had the truck slide sideways into tree branches and it is flexible enough to just move out of the way. Then it went back to the normal shape. I've also had over a foot of wet heavy snow on top of it and it didn't collapse.

They do say they aren't rated to have things like boats and ladders or whatnot strapped onto the top of it.

I have never taken a picture of it folded down. Usually I'm in a hurry to haul something then I put it back up when done.

I meant the stuff on the bed rails, like if it's folded down and your loading something, would it be easy to bend the rails, or tubes?

Ah- I see now. Yeah, I would think they would probably be bent somewhat easily if you put something very heavy on them. They are just hollow square tube. I think made of aluminum. And they sit on the inside edge of the bed rail. So they don't protrude into the bed area like the tonneau cover rails I had on my Silverado. For the most part they stay out of the way and I haven't had an issue with them.

I guess to make them stronger could have them Line X'd but would have to make sure the bedliner doesn't get on any of the snaps.

Those aluminum square rails just clamp onto the bed rails with the typical C clamps like you would clamp a truck shell down with. Some only use 2 clamps per side. I used 3 per side just because I had them from a previous truck.

Thanks yes that's what I was wondering about. Those soft toppers are pretty pricey new so not sure I'll ever get one, but never knew anyone with one to ask about. I appriciate the info. One last question. If a person were to remove the entire assembly from time to time, obviously the clamps arent a big deal, but is it very heavy?

I put it on by myself. Think they say they weigh about 30lbs. It doesn't weigh much at all.

Now that's a huge benefit over a traditional canopy. Before this truck I had a dodge and had a light weight aluminum shell, which was a still a pain by myself. Thanks again for the info

Have you considered just a conventional soft tonneau cover?
Tri fold or roll up, both fold up or remove completely in a couple minutes. Dry storage up to top of bed rails, open truck bed instantly. And most can be opened and remain attached to the truck if you need the room and not at home to remove and store it.

I quit doing toppers for the same reason. After you take it off and on any more than a couple times a year it looses its luster.

Thanks for all the info guys i'm definitely going to look into it, Although i do have an idea that i might try...
I might try and make one myself- thinking a half rectangle going from the spot you would put a ladder rack near the back bed-rail corner, then up to cab height, then across and back down. along with a duplicate of that up near the front of the bed by the cab, that one would probably be permanent and made to look like a roll bar.
from those rectangle structures, would be two removable rectangular steel bars (sliding into a sort of C style female end with a pin/nut n bolt to hold it in place on both ends). running over the bed rails at cab height about the size of a bed rail, then run a traditional tonneau cover along those bars that could get rolled up and expanded easily. Then maybe additionional structure anywhere its needed. So picture 77 k20s cover(blue truck), without the sides and back cover- only the top. It wouldn't be as useful as the full coverage style but im really only looking for something i can bolt up at the track and have some shade, or a cool tailgating rig. The days of real hard work for this truck is over lol. This would allow me to roll up the cover and remove the frame of it if i needed to travel a bit. Ill probably mock up a wood version to see how it would look, and if i like it maybe ill try it. i wouldn't be welding anything to the truck permanently except for the roll bar/head panel. id ideally be able to disassemble the whole thing with a few tools, and if i didn't have time id just roll up the cover.
let me know if it sounds like a decent idea or if you couldn't picture my design very well; see i'm still in high school so i have way to much time to think about things i should do in my boring classes lol.
