Any idea if the transmission crossmember from the th400 will work with the 700r4?

Should be fine. I think it is just a different mount, not a different crossmember

Cool, thanks.
I did some digging in to the Gear Vendors Overdrive. Does look like the beauty way to go. Also, outside what I can afford at the moment.

Gear vendors overdrive may not be the cheapest option, but you would keep the strength and towing capacity while lowering you highway cruise RPM.

I plan to install a Gear Vendors unit in the spring, even after swapping my 4:10s to 3:73s.

When I ordered my last 2 wheel drive dually in 1976 it was in May of that year.
They had a shortage of Dana 70 axles that summer and when mine arrived it had a Spicer.
No problem, it worked great Just a good ole 454 with 3.73 gear.

What? Spicer is the axle and driveline brand name of Dana incorporated. Dana and Spicer are the same company.

Lol. Good point. All I have to offer this no-brainer thread is a th400 still lacks a lock up converter. 4500 or go home. 4l80 otherwise.

1976 they had a shortage of what was referred to as the "motorhome" axle in slang language.
This rear differential did not have a threaded fill plug in the housing, but a pop in fill plug.
It had the name "Spicer" right on it. That made that axle different than all the others I ever had or seen.
I bought 8 new dually pickups over the years and know what I had. I know about Dana Corp and Spicer history.

It usually works. You might have to drill a few holes in the frame to relocate the mount.
