is there any value in a late 90s (pre facelift) oldsmobile bravada rear end housing?
i got one for free, no springs , no shafts, no brakes or wheels, and the thing is locked up tight, cant even make it budge.

Im guessing it went and grenaded, hence why free. If the housing has value for anyhing else, id like to know. Its small. I say 7.5 maybe? I hear they could have 8.5..? But its small. I was able to lift it into my truck bed on my own.

Being locked up solid and the smaller rear end, I'd guess free is the right price. My buddy paid like $200 for a good, posi/3.73 8.5 rear end for his '02 not long ago

They are pretty cheap to find good used ones out there.
It will probably make you $5 in scrap value.

Then its going to be a good tarp weight!

Wide , holds down a long narrow area. I actually used it across bags of trash on my way to the incinerator yesterday to keep them from flying out ;)

I recently used an old Honda hood for the same thing.
Holds tarps down quite well.
I should cut my original hood in half for the square ,its upside down on the ground as a "ski" for the 77 frame I have , but good idea. I also have a graveyard of random ass steel hoods that i could get from

If it has a good 3.23-3.73 ratio gearset in it, those can have a little value. I used to sell them for about 50 bucks to the 3rd gen F-body crowd.

I cant turn the axle shafts or the pinion any
Like its not even able to rock back and forth lol

Yeah, the gearset could be garbage, but there's also a chance that it's not.

Im gonna go pull the cover off just for you (it was missing a bolt, hopefully it didnt drain out and then nuke)

well EVERY bolt beside one was rounded off

It looks like there was RTV or rubbery-paint over the bolts, and whoever rounded didnt clear it. I may be able to get to the bottom of the hex heads with a wrench if there is any left, but im going to torch the paint and scrape it away. but im gonna do that later lol.

otherwise vice grips if it has no hex left.
The bolts should be 1/2 not 13mm right?

Big strength differences between the 7.5/7.65 and the 8.5 -- bearing sizes and number of axle splines. 8.2 is OK for mild performance. The 8.5 was used in most square body C10s. Always worth taking it apart if it's an 8.5. I'm not familiar with the 8" and 8.6".

I have an 8.6 in the yard and it is the heaviest rear end I have had to move around.
I know there are heavier units out there, but this is from a "small truck".
It is from a 2001 S-10 and has disc brakes on it.
I was going to use it under my '54 Bel Air, but the internets are telling me the calipers hit the frame.

The only S10's to get the 8.6 were the ZR2 models and they had drum brakes. ZR2 Blazers got them too, and so did 5-speed Blazers, but they got disc brakes too.
