Hey guys, picked up a 73 Blazer 4x4 with a 350 recently. It’s not actually mine just borrowing it from my father so I can fix it up before giving it back.
It started life as a field fire truck where the local fire department stuffed a 500 gal tank in the back and a pump where the passenger seat should have been.
luckily they didn’t find much use for the truck so it sat in the fire barn it’s whole life only accumulating 5,000 miles before getting to my father.
He got it fixed up pretty well by removing the fire department tank and pump, treating and repairing rust spots, installing an interior out of an 83 Blazer, roll bar, soft top, found a hard top that’s never used, installed but never charged an R12 AC, and removed the smog pump from the engine. A bunch of other small projects as well but he gave up working on it after it got to a decent condition.
Now that I’ve got it im looking to finish the truck nicely. Restore the paint, finish the interior, stereo, get the AC working, stroke the 350 to 377, maybe a new transmission to replace the granny gear and replace the axle ratios if required. I’m sure I’ll find many other small projects along the way.
I’m a aircraft technician by trade but have little experience working on these trucks so this forum will be a great resource.
look forward to the whole project, thanks in advance for all the help!
Edit: forgot to add a picture. I haven’t done the beauty shots yet... the truck is very much original, still has the factory wax numbers on the body and axles. No real rust to speak of. Is going to stay a stock looking truck
