1985 Chevy C10, the oil pressure gauge when you start the engine it goes to above 60 lb when you turn it off it slowly drops back to zero? When you unplug The Wire from the switch it goes straight to 60 pounds, when you plug the wire back into the switch it goes back to zero, when you start the truck it slowly goes back to 60.

What happens if you ground the sender wire and turn the key on?

The sender is open. Time for a new one.

I had this happen to me on the BQE when the truck was new. Oil pressure gauge pegged and my heart jumped into my throat. A couple of phone calls later everybody agreed it was a false reading because a stuck regulator would have blown the filter off the engine. Changed the sender. All was well.

Lol, remember the X Bronx of years ago, you wouldn't dare leave you're vehicle there unattended. It would be a smoldering carcass in 15 minutes. Ahh, the good ol days of New Yawk. Lol!

I was a teenager when this happened. I wasn't about to stop when the gauge pegged. I figured as long as there was pressure there was life. I got to my destination and called home base, then we made decisions about the integrity of oil filters.

Thank Gawd it didn't short and show zero pressure. That would have shifted the decision making process in a bad direction.

One day I'll tell the story of the flat tire just outside of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. That is a New Yawk story.
