o2 Sensor Location

As someone pointed out in another thread, the exhaust that I just took off my 87 TBI 305 to replace, didn't have an o2 sensor. So my question is: Where was the original o2 sensor located, can I move it to after the header in the exhaust pipe, and where did the wire exit the wiring harness so I can try to find it?

Or maybe it does/did have one and now I need to replace the o2 sensor I snapped off...lol

But the question still remains, can I relocate it to on the exhaust after the long tube headers?

Not 100% sure on the 87. My 92 has it mounted in the left side exhaust manifold right before the exhaust pipe. The wire comes out of the engine harness about 10in from the sensor. It should be a purple wire. If your installing headers, you drill a hole in the collector and weld in a bung for the sensor to screw into.

They make a collector for behind the header with a bung welded in. I am pretty sure Jims86 usually says that far downstream should use a heated O2 sensor.
