A family member wants help doing a tie rod and provided a part. the part is a oreillies parts house brand outer tie rod without a cotter pin or a castle nut. its just a torque prevailing nut, but of nylon design. Im not saying they dont work but im worried about harsh road spray eroding that nylon in addition to the wear and tear on steering system. Im wondering maybe drill a holl once the nut is torqued and install a cotter pin as secondary backup?

Thoughts?

Gut reaction, I wouldnt put it on my car. I use brass cotter pins and currently detroit axle one side, AC Delco the other.

Car is a 2004 maxima if that mattered

They work fine and are common in the modern auto industry. They just can be a pain in the ass to install and remove sometimes.

I've installed hundreds of them with nylocks, at least 1/2 of them come with nylocks, and have for at least 20 years. There is no need to drill a hole the nylock will outlast the ball socket. The problem could be taking it off in 5 years.

I would think you might like to rephrase that response?

probably due to too much use of 'female dog' to describe any/all women.

therefore implying YOU would force a woman to remove the nylock and call her names while she did it.
(according to your sentence structure)

ahh grammar, thou art a cruel mistress.

;)

It does have a torx center so to keep the stud from turning I believe. Because its gonna resist going on a lil bit more

Perhaps the real sin might be using a autopart store house brand tie rod??!! The quality can definitely be hit or miss on them

Can't say I would have thought about it like that when I read it, but now that you pointed it out, that's hilarious, lol.
