Ah interesting.
I was wondering.

I just recently replaced the NV4500 in my 98 with one from a 95. I figured one for one swap, be easy. Nope.
95 is an external slave, 98 is an internal slave cylinder. Required me to get a new flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate.
Bellhousings don't swap either, different bolt pattern and center bore. What a pain.
Im gun shy now, lol

This also should have only required a pressure plate change to the older 95 an down style. The bellhousing is different because of the different bearing retainer styles between clutch fork an internal slave.

So I was just looking through Bluex's build thread and he mentions the need for "the correct pressure plate to work with the internal slave cylinder". Unfortunately, the link to his trans swap thread seems to be dead. Hopefully he will be able to let us know at some point.
It is kinda a good thread, maybe sticky worthy so it's easier to reference :shrug:

On that truck, the stock 98 flywheel was offset really far to the block.
The difference between a 98 and 95 flywheel was almost a half inch.
Between the flywheel, amd pressure plate change, it was about inch and an eighth thicker..

The pressure plate has to match the throwout bearing style. An 86 plate would be clutch fork style an it won't work with an internal slave. He needs to use a 96+ clutch kit and a flywheel that matches his engine. I'll have to look again but i believe a 98 350 had a 12" clutch option.

I can't help on the master question, I think it would work but just something you'd have to try an see. I used a wilwood master mounted more traditionally on the firewall
Good catch man. Pressure plate to match engine,disc to match transmission is my goto on oddball swaps. It always works,oh wait I forgot about the couple of times it didn't.I always remember the good times not the bad ones.Let me guess the pressure plate bottoms out against the throw out bearing,or there is a sleeve that hits the pressure plate. I've had sleeves that hit pressure plates in a couple of swaps.

That's interesting, I didn't think there was a difference in flywheels when the blocks should be the same. I thought it only changed with the switch to 1 piece rms like small blocks. I definitely don't have the experience on big block stuff though. I just figured it would be similar because the NV3500/NV4500/T56 all use the same internal slave though.

Yep it's been working great for lots of miles now.
Thats awesome to know. That saves me having to figure out what to buy.
And i actaully have the old pressure plate off my 98, it might work. It looks like the one in your picture.

Yeah i was suprised too. My 98 is a 350 vortec. Im glad i measured the distance to the throwout bearing before i installed the trans
