I haven't picked up the shaft (get it tomorrow) so I'm not sure of the length. Should a regular automotive machine shop be able to bore the case or do I need to take it to a regular machine shop?

I happened to be checking out an auction for the estate of a old repair shop owner, a lot of 50's parts, but happened to see a box marked New 205 input shaft for a TH400, since it appeared to be what I will need for my NV4500 conversion, I bid on it. Only paid about $60 for it and some other parts, so if it isn't what I need, I'm not out much, and should be able to sell it.

I'm still looking for parts for the conversion, and the truck won't be ready for it for a year or so, so I will keep looking for a 205 set up for a 400, but will use this as a backup. I suppose it will also depend on what it will cost me to have my case machined, and what I have to pay for a 400/205 transfer case, to decide which way I will go.

ORD charges $190 + shipping to do the machining. I'm pretty sure it is just boring out the case an additional 10mm for the larger bearing. https://www.offroaddesign.com/labor-to-machine-np205-case-for-90mm-input-bearing.html

There's a lot of misinformation in this thread. I have swapped a 4500 into my 85 both in front of a 205 and 208. I also swapped out a 465 for a th400 in front of a 205 on my 69 K20.

There are 2 versions of the adapter (and t-case), a figure 8 and a 6 bolt round pattern. The 205 has 2 input shaft lengths (long and short). The adapter is also a short or tall version depending on the crossmember.

AA also sells an adapter ring for mating a long output 205 input shaft to a 205 (what I did). It's way cheaper ($55) than buying a short input shaft or machining a factor adapter.

Finding a late (89 up) round pattern 205 is a needle in a haystack nowadays.

That's good to know. I'll have to check with my local machine shop and see if they can do it and what they would charge.

Might be able to save a couple of bucks on shipping, we've been thinking about a camping trip to Utah after visiting my son in Denver next year, and thought about picking up my springs, lift kit, and other parts when we drive thru there.

Since I have no idea where I was asked or who @Turbo4whl @DoubleDingo @TubeTruck one if you was wanting a np205 4x4 indicator switch and this is my 77 and I don't see a switch anywhere. I checked around it's got a lot of dirt caked so direct me if I am just not seeing it. Also,, does a 77 have a indicator on dash?
