NP205 fixed yoke to slip yoke

I picked up a 205 that has a fixed yoke how difficult is it to swap it to a slip yoke like the current 208 I have now. Ultimately I want to convert the 205 to a slip yoke and the 208 to a fixed. Thanks

I would just use the 205 with fixed yoke. Can you get the driveshaft with the 205?

I would have to have the shafts done. I just paid 800 for my front and rear. Only reason I want to do this is I want the 205 for my K10 and I'm putting a 350 in my wife's 1980 CJ5 and I want to put the 208 in that one.

I actually thought about doing this very thing(my wife has a cj7 with a 258 with scoring in the cylinder walls). Have you considered having to change radiator, and sway bar, adapters, ect.. I decided it might be cheeper to find a used 258 and build it with a hotter cam and the 4.0 head. Id like to hear your toughts tho. I can be talked back into a 350

All '80 and up 205's had a slip yoke IF they came in a truck that used a 1-piece driveshaft. Trucks with a 2-piece shaft used a fixed yoke like in previous years. Most people convert the other way, lol. I've got a couple slip-yoke 205's under the workbench, but I don't know when I will be back home.

Last I knew, the only way of converting a 208 to fixed yoke was using modified 80's Dodge parts. Dodge used a 208 with a fixed yoke and parts will swap around, but there are complications like an oiling hole that doesn't line up.

This is starting to be most inconvenient. Thank you for the information. I called a few local shops and they told me some websites. Just does seem like it needs to be this difficult but I guess that comes with the fun.

If the 205 is being used as the crawler, keep the fixed yoke on it. Nothing sucks more than fully extending the rear suspension and pulling out the slip yoke from the t/case and dumping 90w all over the terrain.
1. it sucks having to add fluid on the trail.
2. it just gives the jack wagons another reason to close down our trails.

That's what I wanted the 208 as a fixed for the lower gears for my wife's jeep and the 250 with the slip for my k10 mudder. Weight was also a factor in my reasoning. There is a couple of places I was told about jb conversions and off road design but I'm sure I'll be spending more on the conversion than it would be worth. Thanks for all the info I'm going to continue to look

Can I suggest an NP241 or 2 (one for the wife’s Jeep). They come with a slip yoke and you can get a fixed yoke conversion for it too. It should bolt in place of an NP208 and is purported to be almost as strong as an NP205. They are a little harder to find, but may be the easiest swap in the end.
