has any body ever tried putting the newer style axles that have the auto locking hubs in them on a squarebody?

oh nevermind i forgot they changed to ifs

im actually on the hunt for a AAM 1150 axle for my dually. strong as or stronger than my 70, convert to SRW and use factory off the shelf parts for rear disk with Ebrake.

I put front and rear axles from an 89 Suburban on my 86.

Auto hubs were an option (although failure prone) in the 80's.

you could absolutely take a rear end out of a brand new 1 ton truck, the main thing you would have to do would be cut the old spring perches and shock mounts and reweld them in the correct location

locking hubs win everytime

That was the first thing I did when I swapped the axles, Took off the auto-locking hubs, and put in the Warn manual locking hubs. You lock them, unlock them, they work flawlessly every time.

Nope, it was still the 205. I don't know the first year for the option, but right around then was when the "synchro" version of the 205 started.
