Greetings all,
new to the forum, and fairly new to Chevy truck- had 3 while in high school long time ago.
So I recently inherited an 84 C20 camper special, originally a 6.2l ‘diesel’ now a 305ci small block with a non stock rear differential. Looking to find a box type shell and set it up as a tool/work truck.
Back story- the truck belonged to a friend out in a remote mining area.
the engine was replaced one winter and a few winters later the stock Eaton(?) LSD rear diff grenaded and was replaced with an open diff.
Fast forward to a few years ago, and my friend was looking to sell it, he asked me about it. I already have a couple truck projects and declined but I did offer to haul it out to the main road system- 90 miles away if he needed to get it out of the district to sell. A couple weeks later - he offers it to me for free, so I actually drove it during the loading process and decided to keep it.

Looking to find a good rear axle with a Torsten diff, and perhaps a better/different gear ratio.

Thanks, I really liked the rig, and couldn’t pass it up after driving it.
So far I have replaced all the front spindle bearings and races- victims of numerous river crossings. I had some drama trying to get the right parts, had to use the shotgun approach, and return the unused items.
I figure to keep it rolling, and get some good use out of it, I think it has a lot of life left!

Thanks for the welcome,
looking for an older 70-80’s full floating complete rear end to go through, install a Torsten type differential and replace the existing rear end. Then see about swapping in some disc brakes up front. Building it to be a work rig, capable for some off road driving- nothing radical, just we have a lot of rough roads up here, with some interesting road conditions.

I’m not that familiar with Chevy’s of this vintage, and I like Frankenstein rigs- I think this is a good platform.
