Alright, buddy just got a 87 blazer 350 tbi. Trying to start, we can see the throttle body shooting fuel into the intake, it turns over and will run off starter fluid for a few seconds. Seems to be getting fuel, but we only hear the pump when we Hotwire across the fuel pump relay. New plugs and such, just new to tbi. Seems to be something simple, where should we start?

if you can see fuel shooting in, but no start, it might be flooded. Put the pedal to the floor and crank for a few seconds to see if it will start on the "clear flood" mode.

I’d check for spark and timing too

Ben.

you have fuel going in? - but it only starts with starter fluid?

If you start it with starter fluid and it runs for a few seconds, can you still see the fuel in the TBI? It should be fine mist out of both injectors.

I'd lean toward ignition control module. there is a no start trouble shoot guide in the drivability manual in the reference section.

Yep, had the same thing happen several years ago. It was showing all the good signs (fuel, etc.) but wouldn't fire. New module fixed it right up.

THIS...
I carry an extra ICM around in my TBIs...had one go on me in the boonies and it turned a regular calm situation into an emergency. I've eventually had to change the ICM at some point in every TBI Squarebody that I own (4 total).
