Hi, I grew up in a street rod family and have always built and owned Traditional Hot Rods since I was old enough to drive. About 20 years ago I started building a 1980 short bed. The farther I went the rougher it was and I bailed on the project. I am now building a 79 with my son. He will be 16 in December and We’re trying to get it done before his birthday. He likes them low so it Is body dropped with air ride. We still have a ways to go but thought I’d join here and try to learn anything that I can about these trucks.

Welcome to GMSB. Love hearing about the Father-Son/Daughter/Grandchild builds. How about start up a build thread in the Under Construction section. Document your progress and post pics, get ideas, help and share the same. You won't think so now, but it is very cool to go back and look at where it came from and it's all dated. You'd be surprised how things changed along the way.

Usually I dislike really low trucks, but that one is really good looking!

Welcome to the site Mel. Truck is looking good. I am also building one. My 78 is also vertically challenged. I started mine last April. Just got paint on it weekend before last.
Keep us posted on any progress.
What drivetrain you planning on running? Mine has an LS-1 with a T-56 6 speed manual transmission. Holler at me if I can offer/give any insight I gladly will.
Hope you don't mind looking at a couple pics of my junk? What color is your boy leaning towards?
