Yep. Iirc, Ford dealers were setting the tire pressure to 26 psi. In my opinion, that's very stupid... I'd a told them whiny wimps that they bought a truck-based SUV and it's not a damn car.

At any rate, I believe it was a combination of problems.
1: whiny Ford customers
2: dealers inflating tires to only 26 psi
3: that particular model of tire was not at all tollorant of heat buildup from lower air pressures
it would be like buying a 4wd square and saying "jeez how do you guys drive these?"

Oh yeah, my brother in law worked at a Ford dealership about a year before the whole tire fiasco. He wound up with a set of Wilderness A/T's from a late model Explorer that he installed on his S10. He rolled that S10 about 6 months later, lol. I wouldn't blame the tires though, he simply drove like a crazed lunatic.

The manager of the Firestone store had a set on his Explorer and had over 90k miles on his tires. That was the other thing that they lasted too long having people drive them way past the stated mileage because they still weren't worn out. This is if they were properly inflated and rotated.
