So my truck has no carpet on the bottom half of the door and someone mustve cut out holes and installed their own 6.5 inch speakers on the door (which dont work anymore). I was gonna replace them with nice refurbished jbl ones for 40$, but will they sound at all nice on the original head unit? I was gonna get a fm transmitter to play music from my phone with the original head unit because I wanted to keep the original look.

In one of mine, I have 6.5's in the doors and a '90-ish Sony tape deck. I also have some 6x9's in boxes behind the rear seat. It sounds good, but there's not much volume. You can hear it just fine at interstate speeds, but it won't go any louder than that.

It won't sound as nice as a new unit. 40 yo technology. I had a AC Delco am/fm cassette 4 channel from a 1978 Buick Le Sabre and ran a cassette adapter for my phone. It worked pretty well. I did clean the tape heads before I installed it.

when you replace the speakers in the doors get these also.

They will help protect the speaker from the weather and act as an enclosure to help with sound, otherwise the sound quality and probably volume will suffer.

Wow, that's a much better solution than what I did!

Do we want to know?

Mine is just a simple flap, nothing fancy. The speaker holes were already there, I just made them more round.
