new owner from AL

hey yall im nate i just got a 1979 k10 scottsdale with a 400sbc. been trying to identify everything on it so far i got 400sb th400 tansmission. i believe the rear diff is a gm 12 bolt. the front i cant tell if its a dana 44 or gm 10 bolt. its hard to find any numbers even though ive been scrubbing and spraying brake cleaner. any info or tips? thanks?

If it is a Dana,look for a 44 casted into the housing. Next to the inspection plate.

i crawled under the truck and on the of the diff i saw gm 4 on the rear axle looking at it from the back of the truck after some scrubbing i saw EST on the right side. have no clue what it means

Howdy! '79 probably came with a 10 bolt when it was new, they have a fairly round diff cover.

redo the rear main seals, front main seals and pan gasket. if it's still leaking change the valve cover gasket.
