Hey everyone. New here picked up a 1984 c20 suburban Scottsdale with 454/th400 on Saturday with every intention to gut the drive train for my 72 c10 and sell the body to someone else. But the Burb drove 55 miles with no probs, no smoke, power steering works, heat works, only 3 spots of rust to repair. One quarter size rust bubble on the driver side back seat rocker, rust through both sides behind the wheels. Floors solid, roof solid, body really straight. I even found a 3/8 drive 10mm socket inside the cab. Felt like a sign to not gut and scrap her. So she's staying forever. The headliner is even in good shape. Needs some things cleaned up, small electrical things to sort, and then it'll get a drop and some wheels.

Howdy!

I'm really happy you decided to keep it whole! Old Burbs are hard to beat :)

My wife's old man had one just like it in red when she was a kid, so she was surprisingly on board with me keeping it too.

Allegedly bought new by a lady and owned until 2015 by her until she couldn't stop backing into stuff in it, sold once, and then once more to the kid I bought it off of. He was young. Maybe 19 and he sold it to me because he couldn't afford the mpg, has a jeep for work and needed the cash, girlfriend is pregnant. On the flip side of that he was a nice kid said he bought it because his granddad had one. He was happy I'm not gonna trash it for parts. Also I'm 99% sure his girl got pregnant in the burb. Candle wax spilled in the glove box was an indicator.

Lmao, well don’t have an relations in it then. Your ole lady might end up pregnant too! Call it the baby maker then lol. Also it sickens me when people buy them and just part them out. Granted we all could use the parts, but I’ve seen some nice ones go down to pieces. A lot of these trucks met their makers when the government had that “cash for clunkers” thing. Where if it got x amount of mpg it could be sold off for like 7500 or something.

Welcome. And I agree, it would be better to keep it together.
You can find drivetrain parts for the 72 way easier than a good running 35 year old Burb in decent shape.
