i used to drive wreckers a few years back, I didnt mind it except when I was on call and had to go pick drunks up after the bar closed, or a spoiled little rich kid needed his tire changedd

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with running half ton axles. I have a few offroad buddy's that still run them in there crawlers and we use a few halfton trucks to plow snow. Simply put a 1/2 ton square body with a set of 33" mud tires and a locked rear end about the most affordable way to go in our group of offroaders. They seldom break, have good ground clearance, and go almost the same places mine does with 60's and 38" tires. I buy all my 60's at bargain prices why I use them otherwise I'd still be running the halfton ones mine came with. I just bought a complete running gear 1978 K30 single wheel out of a friends pick a part yard for $750 to give you idea of how I buy them.

Yep, $750 for everything is a good price for sure.
I agree totally with the comment on the half ton axles. Keep the tire size reasonable and do what you want with it. I've seen some 10 bolts doing some pretty hard wheeling in a sandy river bottom and they didn't break many times they went. Still running 10 bolts today. I'd still like to do a D60 on one of my trucks though.
