So my truck needs a new exhaust system, right now everything is stock with manifolds on the 350 and a Y pipe down to a single that exits out behind the drivers side back tire. I've called around to a few shops and they say a new system (single or double) is going to run me about $700. I was looking at the Heart Throb exhaust on JC Whitney for about $300 and was wondering if it is a good quality system and worth my effort to put it in. What has been your experience? I don't own a welder...yet so I'm not sure how well the install will go with me doing it. Any input or opinions?

you get what you pay for and the heart throb system is cheap. Herein the rust belt they last about two years and then fall apart. Depending on what you want to do with it you could take the part numbers from here:
http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catalog/walker-exhaust-systems/e-catalog-lookup
and search for pricing. If you want to go to duel exhaust look elsware but don't bother with the cheap stuff.

Whatever system you chose to go with, get under there every spring and paint it with a can or 2 of silver high heat paint from Home Depot.

Or...you could just install aluminized or stainless exhaust. Its worth spending the extra money to get true duals from a reputable company. You do get what you pay for.

Ditto... with mandrel bends and a crossover. I'm not a good welder - so I build it and have someone else do the welding. Flowmaster use to sell good mandrel-bent and aluminized tailpipes in 2&1/2" ( maybe 2&1/4" also).

For sure this stuff will last 10-15 years easy. You'll find that the clamps rust off before the pipe even changes color

Thanks for the info guys. I am of the firm opinion that you buy once and cry once. I'll make sure what ever I choose it is think walled pipe and either aluminized or stainless.

Another question...is a duel exhaust worth the extra cost? Does it boost performance that much?

No. Single exhaust that is sized right will flow and scavenge extremely well. Perhaps a properly sized dual with a crossover to allow for scavenging will be better.

I've run both true duals and stock y-pipe single, no dual with crossover, but I like the y-pipe single better.

Unless you have big cubes or big horse power the single will work just fine.

I just ordered a pre bent system today from hooker. I got mine for headers but they have them for exhaust manifolds too. I think there around $225 for manifold back system. The header back system is under $200 shipped to your door from summit. The system is only 2 1/4" but is mandrel bent. Flow tech also has a system for about $150 but it is not mandrel bent. The flow tech header system is around $115. Neither systems come with mufflers. I don't know how well either system would seal with out welding and plan on welding mine up. I would go with the hooker system and have some one weld it up for ya. I would pay attention in a few months to my exhaust build cuz its going to be a unique set up :)

Thanks for the info joe383. I'll be looking for your build thread in the near future.
