Carrier bearing took a dump. It's "non-serviceable" so a new driveshaft was $1000-1200. I found this bearing housing kit from jxb performance. $300 an fixed the problem. I still don't understand why such a short driveshaft needs a carrier but whatever. Only other stuff I've had to do is both front abs sensors an brakes. The Interior is starting to rattle thanks to the wonderful SC roads. She's closing in on 100k though!

Ugh I had one in my old '00 S10 too. It bit the dust about the same mileage as this one. I had a 1 piece aluminum made to replace it. Ran me about $400 iirc. That got rid of a vibration that truck had between 40-45 since it was new. Dealer never could "replicate the issue" lol.

I'm sure it has something to do with available space vs critical speed vs material it could be made from etc etc.

I'll have to ask my dad about that, my mom's '12 Charger R/T has ~130k on it and I don't recall him ever mentioning replacing a carrier bearing

If it goes out you'll swear it's the RF wheel bearing, but it isn't lol. Mine sounded like the Jetsons car....

Sent her down the road today. :sad72:

Everything mopar is expensive, an I had a nagging feeling it was gonna get needy as we broke 100k miles.

I'm probably going to regret this :bawl:

Well that’s a bummer! The General Lee is a garage queen. Especially now since it was “moms car”….
But how do you mean, guess I haven’t done anything except tires and basic maintenance, literally just oil changes, in almost 60k miles, but our old 06 SRT (same chassis), parts didn’t seem out of line. Ran that one up to 150k before selling and aside from needing rotors and tie rods, she was solid. And frankly needed very few repairs. Radiator and new electric fans are the only non wear item parts it needed.

You’ll be sad to see it go. And now that they’re not making them anymore, it’s time to find one and keep it!
Not downing your decision, I’ve just found them to be quite reliable is all.
Hiding in the shade with the “nice cars” lol.

I wanted to replace the lower window trims, $120/each x4. The side panels on the console were coming loose, $320 each side. I was always worried about having a lifter issue, an that was gonna be a 3-5k repair, to do a delete and tune anyway. Idk I guess the novelty of it wore off some, it's just an expensive car to insure, property taxes, premium fuel, high dollar oil etc.

Some of that isn't important to the function of it I know but overall I just felt it to be a bit excessive I guess. It has been a great car, no major issues minus the carrier bearing. I have no complaints about it in that regard for sure. Life just changes your priorities I guess.
