I gave my grandma my 2011 gmc terrain, fully loaded SLT over a year ago and I've been paying for her to drive it. $632 a month for note and ins.

She wants to get it in her name but its too much money. Even refinancing with her credit knocks the note down $140 a month (to 360) but she thinks she wants me to sell it and she caj finance something cheaper herself.

I owe $22, 500 on it, the bank values it at $23, 400.

She wants a car for like 14, 000. Lol new. I told her its gonna be a big step down from the luxury of a fully loaded car...but she wants me to take her car shopping this weekend.

Where should we go? Is there evn a nice car for around 16k new? I think I'm gonna have to convince her to buy used.

I bought a base model hyundai sonata 2013 model for 23k brand new...for my wife...

Here's the car she's driving now

Ehh...16k for new is a hard bargain. Maybe a Honda Fit or something? But that may feel underpowered compared to what she is driving.

If used, the 2007 or newer Accords are quite nice and should fit in around 12-14k used for 07' models. They changed generations in 08', but I prefer the 07's myself. I had two, one V6, one 4-cyl. Never an issue with either and one had 100k on it. Only got rid of it because it was manual and I was having knee troubles.

Thanks for the input. I did some research on local used car sites last night amd also new cars and looks like the only thing new for around 14k is a Fiat. Lol.

Looks like we will definitely be looking at nice used cars.

I think you can get a Chevy sonic for around 14 or 15. Kia Fortes should be around that range too.

I bought my wife a 2012 Chrysler 200 pretty well loaded last year, for 13500 out the door. Look into program cars. Her car was used for a Golf Tournament, it had 1600 miles on it, so they can't sell it as new. You don't take the new car hit. We bought it Feb 2013, it was made July 2012.

Also look into going threw your Union, Credit Union. I went threw mine, and my interest is 2.1%. The payment on her car is 314.00 a month. The Credit Union splits the payment up, and takes the payment out of my check. So I don't even have to worry about being late or anything like that.

Thanks for the advice. Ended up swapping her the terrain for my 2011 sonata. We owe 16k for it. She is getting it refinanced for a a way lower note so she can afford it herself. So now I finally got rid of a 400 dollar car note!

I was going to suggest a Sonata
March 2012 we decided that my wife needed a more fuel efficient vehicle (she drives 40k a year easy)
So I researched for more than two months...
Found that the sonata was the best bang for the buck....
I emailed EVERY dealership within a 200 mile radius with what I wanted and what I was willing to pay.
With 24hrs a number of dealerships emailed me back with what they could offer
She picked on out.... We went to the dealership drive it... And were out in 45mins
$17k... With a few options
It's been a good car for her
We will drive the wheels off of it.

But it is a great car. I bought it after driving a rental in massachusetts on vacation in late 2011. Needed a family car so looked them up, cheaper price and better mileage than a honda accord plus the sonata had a bettet safety rating. We have 46, *** miles on ours already and no problems
