I’m in a position where I know what I mentally need to do now but no idea where to begin. So if anyone could give me insight I’ll be soo thankful!
Please know because of the memories with it and the failures I feel today it’s been a literal fight with myself. Message me if wanting more detail as I’m going to try and keep this as short as possible.
My great uncle bought his 82 c10 in 1984 at a gov auction. Up until 2013 he kept it in mint condition, as he got older and I was his care giver we did what we could so we made sure to start it monthly or soo. As his health declined I had to worry about him so starting less and less until he passed in 2015. Unfortunately his son didn’t agree with his will and everything was in limbo and locked up until late 2017. Finally the son lost and the estate was distributed in Jan 2018.
So I get the truck finally only to see the windshield is knocked out and it has 2 dents from a tree that fell during a hurricane. Before I could even start fixing it up I had some medical problems that finally put me in the hospital. That’s when I found out I had kidney disease and I was in stage 5 failure. A month of hospitalization and dialysis to survive I’m being told my dad is stealing parts off the c10. It’s been going on 3 years now and I’m physically unable to do what I once dreamed of to this truck. Nor do I have the support or help from anyone either. I’ve exhausted my savings trying to survive as I’m having to relearn everything about my life and every time I see the c10 I bust out in tears. Not only am I unable to do what I always dreamed of with the truck I feel like I’ve let my uncle down with the condition it’s in now and I hate myself for it. As much as it breaks my heart thinking and knowing I got to do this I’m out of options because it deserves more than to rot away in my yard. But where do I begin?! I don’t know what price to ask for or what’s ideal in today’s condition. Soo please. Anyone?!
It’s a 1982 c10 short bed step side, original 305,3on the tree. The only thing I know that he did to it was after market radio and paint job
It has a hole in the windshield and a dent of the roof and one on the right front side.
And my dad did steal from me when I was in the hospital and the items I’ve noticed missing is the dash cluster and throttle cable. I was able to get it to crank over about 7 months ago, the tanks full of bad fuel so needs to be dropped. But otherwise it’s a solid truck with minimum rust on the body and the engine will start up I’m sure of just know how strong it’s always been.
Soo anyone??! I need to find someone that can make her beautiful again. Thank you and message me if I’m missing anything please.

Thats a beautiful truck. Im very sorry to hear about your issues and what youve gone through. Wishing you and the truck the best, i agree its a shame to see it sit and go to waste.

It seems by your post that you have made up your mind to get rid of the truck instead of letting it sit. If that is the case, there is nothing wrong with that decision. And in fact, since it appears to be a major point of contention in your family, it may be much better for all involved once it is out of sight and out of mind.

With that said, with it being a square body, it should be an easy sell regardless of condition if of course, your asking price is reasonable. The negative there is dealing with having to sell it on the open market. Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are both heavily watched and you will no doubt get a lot of interest. However, that comes with a lot of tire kickers, low ball offers, and frustration.

If you are not overly concerned about the amount that you will get out if it, a car buying service such as "We Buy Any Car" or similar may be a great option. There are several out there that will buy just about anything running or not. There is even an option to donate it to a charity or foundation. In those cases, they will often pay for the tow to remove it from your property. I used We Buy Any Car to get rid of my mother's vehicle when she passed in order to settle her estate. The difference in what I was paid for it by the auto buying service and what I would have got for it in a private sale only ended up being a few hundred dollars. The difference in cost for me was well worth it compared to dealing with a private sale.

You could have it stored. Most storage places where I live have covered spots, highly secure and was reasonably priced per month at 50$.Maybe do that and you don’t have to tell anyone where it is.And so what if they find out, can’t get to it unless breaking the law.

Wishing you some better days

I’m asking where should I even start with a price? I honestly have no clue and I’ve gone on other sites to look and still don’t know what’s idea for the condition because prices are all over on fb/Craigslist. I never thought I’d sell it but being unable to afford the cost to fix it and not being able to do Them myself anymore, I know it’s best to let go. As much as I hate that I need to, I would hate it more seeking it rust completely away. It screws with me now when I see it in it’s condition soo mind is made. I’m looking for ideal numbers you think I could get because I can use every penny possible in my next round of dialysis. It hasn’t been cheap and I’m only 28 fighting kidney disease alone just lost my insurance this year soo every penny will be needed eventually.

As much as I love that idea, I just need to figure out what I’d sell it for and find a buyer. I’m just soo back and forth when I try to compare and then I get to the point of saying screw it and I’ll just keep it lol
All I keep thinking which gets to me is how pissed my uncle would be with it looking the way it does. It deserves someone that will care of it like he did. Now if I could make up my damn mind [emoji2360]

I hate to give you a non answer, but it is nearly impossible to evaluate the true value of something over the internet. Market conditions in your area would be considerably different than they would be in PA for example. Around here, your truck would be well sought after, not necessarily to fix and run on the road. Rather, it would be used as a donor vehicle for the rust free body panels, etc.

Yeah I have a couple people trying to get it now for that reason but when it comes to it the cash isn’t there [emoji2360][emoji2372]

Well depending on how many years it sat with that huge hole in the windshield that floorboard may not be rust free anymore if it ever was. Again it will be hard to put a value without seeing it. If that carpet is peeled back and it's full of rust holes it will be worth a lot less than a pristine truck that was kept under a shed all these years that's just been rained in the last few weeks. But it sounds like it's been rained on for years and I'd imagine the floor boards are trashed by now.

Also the area matters. A clean truck in Texas is probably worth less than a clean truck in Michigan or the north east.

The parts taken don't sound like a big deal to anyone who would want the truck...will knock a small fraction off the value but not much.

The truck will be valued anywhere from $1000-3500 in my opinion...that's not seeing it in person as well.

I agree with 80BrownK10 on pricing. If it were my truck I would list at $4k and negotiate/take the first in person cash offer. Take the money and put it to good use.

My ex girlfriend had kidney problems. One failed and was removed. The other was functioning about 60%. She was about 20 when they removed it. She got on disability and SSI payed for all of her surgeries and doctor visits and dyalisis. Plus she got a monthly check of about $750.

I know it's not the most money but, it helped her out. That's what it's there for. After a while they sent her a letter saying that she could go back to work and keep her benefits.

She was lazy and refused to get a job so we split up because I can't stand someone that is happy with a government check of $750 and not work. Rather than going out and earning more money by working and still keep your medical coverage.

Anyway, just wanted to offer a source of help after reading you've blown through your money paying all those medical bills when SSI should take care of that for you.
