Rolling on the ground recently and noticed my rear diff gasket needs replaced. Figured while I was at it I'd upgrade to diff cover. I'm finding a few solutions out on the interwebz but figured I'd ask you fine folks to see if you have any suggestions on solutions that were super awesome :)

My rear is a 10 bolt year, 10.54 in ring gear and 4:56 ratio.

If it's the dually axle (D70HD) any D60 or D70 cover will fit it.
It is. Good to know. That makes it easier as I search. Obviously, the main things I'm looking for as I upgrade is the drain plug and looking for an aluminum solution. Just didn't know if there was a specific cover the people liked over others. I'm not interested in over paying just for a brand but also don't want to cheap out and buy a piece of crap LOL

Do you have a rear sway bar? If you're looking at an aluminum cover (possibly with fins) be sure the sway bar won't interfere with it.

With respect to my previous post, the bolt patterns for a 60, 61, 70 and 70HD are all the same. Newer axles like a Super 60, Super 70 and such are different.

Yes, I've got a rear sway bar. Good point on having enough room. I'll have to go back out to look as I don't remember being a ton or room between the stock cover and the sway bar currently. That's a bummer. May have to just clean up the stocker and throw her back on :(

Drill it weld a bung in it.Your welds don't even have to be good, just tacks the drain plug and washer seal on the out side.

Just re-looked and the sway bar is within an inch (maybe 2) if that rear cover so I think that settles things for me.

Not a bad idea that I hadn't thought of :waytogo: Might give this a whirl because I really do want to be able to drain and refill without having to take the cover off and put a new gasket on each time.

Don't get too caught up in trying to get it super low ,especially if you drain and fill it yearly.Just like an atf pan I drain it and fill it yea there's still old fluid in there but if I drain and fill it often enough it's mostly clean fluid.

Lubelocker gasket…. Kinda expensive but are reusable and don’t need to be silicone sealed. I’m pretty sure they’re what came on my Jeep Dana 44’s axles from the factory and I got a set for my GM 10 & 12 bolts for my restoration.

I’m also a fan of the stock covers like @newguy11

What he said ^^^^

The directional flow oil ramps and separators was a huge improvement, keeping the oil from splashing all over the place and directed towards the gears...
Especially at highway RPM's over the long haul...

I'm re-fabricating a stamped steel cover with >10% changes to Mr. Bank's version, so as not to offend his US Patent lawyers... ;)
