At this stage, I'd seriously consider an LS swap and not look back.
This really is the only answer. Great mileage and tons of useful power on tap. Direct bolt in with minor mods. They are cheap and easy to rebuild/maintain. Best bang for your buck.

No replacement for displacement, Big Block it! Lol
Well, technically now days a 6.0 LS with a budget cam swap is a replacement for that displacement, and it will still net decent MPG's if you set it up right. The downside is the torque comes up top rather than off idle.

Why rebuild when for 500 bucks you can just go get another one? LOL

Hey Cw, budget. Standard rebuild, .202 iron heads, 8.7:1 compression, QJet on a high rise dual plane, mild cam off idle to 5K, good set of headers, dual exhaust. No fancy ignition needed, but make sure you get a high quality coil.

With the QJet your fuel mileage will be acceptable, also IF you leave your egr and ESC active, you might be able to push the CR to 9:1 or even a bit more.

LS swaps are not budget and neither are stroker kits
