I'd rock one of the older more mechanical TDIs or the new scandal ridden one. The newer one gives over 500 miles per tank which is huge for since I drive 120 miles daily. Cant afford a newer one and cant justify a non cool car.

If I wanted better MPG I would try and find an old rwd car and swap in a 99+ F body 3800 drivetrain. Nova, Skylark, Cutlass etc. Even an old Datsun would be a pretty sweet daily with a GM V6. If price were no hindrance I'd look at a new GM turbo 2.0 for the swap. I hate driving boring cars. While I would probably waste a bunch of time and money doing that swap any GM 3.8 powered sedan in stock form would keep my wallet happier.

Yeahhh i studied on this some. Long enough to figure out that all 3.8s are not created equal. I was mere moments away from buying a 1996 RS Camaro thinkin I could tune it up and knock down 30mpg RWD , but that's simply not the case.
Hate to break it to ya... :(

He sold his truck and bought some for econobox piece of **** so he could hear his girlfriend better so fuel mileage is a non issue but going threw life with out his man card should be......

All that fuss over wanting to keep a bench seat... and what's he got now, lol.

And here I thought I was gonna offend someone at the idea of an LS swap. Glad to see the forum members have thick skins ;)

There's a good group here. We've always been able to poke at each other, all in good fun. Unlike other places where they get their panties in a bunch and declare war.

Oh I know, I rocked a 02 Firebird V6 for a few years. Really I'd only want an OBD2 L36 for a swap. That 96 Camaro had that engine and while i only got 30mpg once I regularly got over 25. It was a fun car to drive that didnt kill me at the pump, still had grunt to get off the line and get me up long hills with no problem.

And with the sedan keeping my wallet happy I meant L36 equipped, not Series 1 or earlier. Those were turds.

Ya.

OBD 2 is the problem...count me out of that ****.

There's no definitive answer to the RWD L36 dream. If the right deal comes along i'll prolly jump at it just so I can play with it and find out for myself.

I shoulda bought that RS but ol boy kinda sold it out from under me while I was scrapin for the cash. Prolly a one time deal. :(

But I have a K5 now.

Lol. I think its no different than an LS Swap. Obviously less popular because who in their right mind would do that much work for a v6 engine but HP tuners offers (or at least did in the past) good support for 3800 tuning. After that I would imagine a matching set of DBW pedals and some engine mounting solution will have you set up.

I hope to not have to commute as much in the near future but if it keeps up I will certainly be revisiting my 64-67 A body with 4 wheel discs, fuel injection and good economy project.

Most plug-in hybrid owners fail to realize that their vehicle is fueled by coal, mostly.

I miss the TDI for the mileage but the true cost per mile is the same as a gas car capable of 35mpg.

Or they don't care lol. I didn't give a hoot where the power to run my Volt came from, after subsidies and incentives, it cost me 1.17 per day to go to work, and that's all that really mattered to me.

They don’t think about all the coal being burnt and the destruction battery production causes, between the mining, shipping, manufacturing and disposal. It’s what I like to call an “inconvenient truth”. Maybe someone should make a movie about that.

Maybe they can throw in a segment about those compact fluorescents they came up with that were filled with mercury and almost never got taken to a recycling center for disposal? Did I mention the ****** light they produced?

Don’t even get me started on recycling! I call out the deniers every chance I get. It’s good fun and most of them aren’t smart enough to know they’re being played.

Let's be real though.

The General Motors 3800 series 2 is one of the best engines, ever.

EASY top 5 of all time.

The work would be worth it :imo:..

2.0 turbo from buick would be my ideal mpg motor swap. Might think about it more if I buy my stealth back. But otherwise too many projects to begin with.

220k miles on original motor before radiator hose failed causing blown head gasket. Running with a replacement motor/trans. Sold to a coworker a while back. Still running around. Great overall for a daily with manual trans. Picture back when paint was good.
