We have emissions here in Denver, but in the 70's Chevy rated all the trucks with a higher gvw so my half ton falls under different emissions standards mainley no cats required and leaner restrictions on the rest. I have headers into 2 1/2 pipe with 40 series. they used to run out the back of the truck untill a steep hill cought them, now they stop at the front leaf spring mount on the back axle. Need to put some turn downs on them.

Its my guess that cat isn't hurting your performance nowhere near as bad as you might think. Sure its a little restrictive, but not like you think. As far as taking it off, I'd try to hollow it out and run a straight pipe thru it to make it look as if its there and functioning which its not.

What hurts these 80's big blocks more than anything is the peanut port heads. They are designed to be good on the torque but lousy on the hp. Also supposed to salvage some of the mpg. The heads by far, are the weak links in the big blocks. Find an older set of heads, or a set off an older 396 and you'll have a huge hp gain. These motors are all choked up. :shitsweak:

Now you're telling on yourself. That is much to clean under there for a FoBuhFo !!! Are you one of those mall crawler boys and the only off-road the truck sees is the front lawn to wash it??? :baby:

It's really odd to me around here because on the newer stuff that run super efficiently already they check everything and really go over it to make sure that it passes emissions but then on stuff like my truck that does not run efficiently I can do what ever the heck I want and they don't care! To me this is backward thinking. Am I going to bring this up to anyone that can do anything about it? Absolutely NOT but it's still pretty bass akwards! :D

That actually makes perfect sense to me. They check the new efficent stuff becuase they want to make sure its staying efficeint and not being modded or that its working as intended to protect the environment. And since your truck is ineffecient, they already know that it is, so why bother checking to make sure its stil inefficeint. They also know its older and there are fewer and fewer older cars and trucks on the road every year. They also know the older vehicles are usually back up vehicles, or restore projects that are driven lightly. If they aren't being driven often, they are not polluting the air often. I don't think I'd bitch a bit about it.
