:hat: So thats what it takes to get a response? lmao

Just wondered if 10/3 was sufficient for a 30ft run from a 9500w generator to a 22A air compressor. Or would I need 8/3?

Found someone else who had been there - done that and 10/3 works fine up to around 50ft.

At my old place, I had 10/3 run a distance of around 100ft, from the house to my garage. It worked fine, but I don't know how house current compares to that generator.

The source doesn't play a part in the picture, only the load.. 10-3 is good to 30 amps at 50 feet, dryers, appliances, and some AC systems.. At 22 amps, you're kinda close.. To be safe, I'd suggest 8-3.. YMMV......

This, and put an appropriate sized breaker at the end of the run at the compressor.

I know oil cooled compressors have a harder start surge than air cooled in cold weather - my 30gal 2HP oil compressor wont start in anything around 20*. This will be summer so I'm not worried about it.

Called a place that makes extension cords for welders - they said the same thing. 10/3 for 20A at 25-30ft is fine. They usually go 8/3 for anything over 40ft. Compressor has a 25A breaker at the switch.

I think its all good.

Thanks fellas.

fwiw.....original plan was to have a new skirt poured in front of my garage and while things were torn up, run an underground conduit for 220 and a sub panel in the garage - problem solved. The guy doing the concrete is behind til mid-late summer, so this whole generator thing is because I cant wait that long for power in a state that only has 3-4 months of normal weather a year.

DON'T run the compressor until the generator has come up to snuff.
Yep. Generator's owners manual says same thing. When I run the whole house on it. Let it run for about 3-5min, then one flip one breaker at a time. Runs smooth.
