Hey All!

Just got the ok Burb back from the paint shop and now the reassembly process begins!

I was trying to lay out all the parts and see what I’m missing, what they lost and what I need to order and noticed a hole in the fenders I didn’t have them fill and realized there wasn’t anything in there before!?

Does anyone know what this hole is used for?!

Looks like the hole where the trim is attached? There’s a little metal fastener that holds it on.

But not on an 81, right?
That’s what I thought as well…every side trim I see for 81+ is an adhesive?

I looked on LMC, etc and didn’t see a retainer for side trim?

Hm, the position would match with the side trim. Maybe the original trim was adhesive and retainers at the ends that were prone to get loose. The rear corners of the precut side trims have retainers.

Ya know…after looking at it closer…there is a hole in the back and front fender…looking at some google images has me thinking they are for mud flaps (maybe dealer installed?). The holes seem “finished” or maybe even punched, not drilled…

Why not? Would have been that "stainless" style trim I believe. My 84 burb has the same hole on the front fender, before and after the rear wheel well and two below the tailight.

My ‘82 has both adhesive and clips to hold it on.

Correct.

Hole for body trim.

The holes eventually went away because they were a spot where rust could originate.

K
Keith did some 80s years have metal belt line trim?
@PrairieDrifter, appears factory if yours has it too, but it’s an 84 correct?
I thought all 81-up belt line trim was adhesive.
Another nuance I was unaware of.
Good news is new trim will cover up the holes on the OPs truck. Bad news if he wasn’t planning on installing any.

Same here, My 84 C10 has both clips and adhesive on the chrome trim. Someday I will get around to removing the trim and painting the truck lol, looks bad with trim missing.

No - only adhesive.

The early versions had clips in the "cove" areas of the fenders, where there was concern the adhesive might pull away.

Eventually there was an initiate to eliminate as many drilled holes as possible, to prevent rust, and those clips and holes were removed.

So the trucks up to ‘84 at least, had extra holes in the fenders under the trim? But if they were base model no trim they didn’t?
Seems like an odd anomaly but I’m not familiar with nuances that minor. I know the 86 I have doesn’t have holes.

Thanks all!

Actually I wasn’t wanting the trim…however after seeing it without, I think it almost needs trim..otherwise it looks like a big blob?
