Lowest gears I ever had were 4.56. Engine was a fairly hot 283 + .060 and trans was a Muncie M20. Even when cars were going only 60 mph on freeways, I almost always used secondary roads for even 10-15 mile trips. I will say my tires were probably only 27-28" tall.

But I had a buddy with an early 60s Corvette with a solid lifter 327 and 4.10 gears. He used to drive that thing nearly 500 miles round trip every weekend to see his girlfriend! Ah, lust! But wow, 5.13 sounds just insane to me on the street with a 1:1 top gear.

I wonder how much power a Gear Vendors OD would sap?

u better have the engine to go with the 514 gears. they are not street gears nor are they 1/4 mile gears they are 1/8th mile , u said u want to run 55 mph on the hwy like i said u better have the engine or that 327 will have a short life

This one runs 5.38s and peak HP is made @ 6300 RPM, 11.90s -12.20s NHRA stock 1985 350, and that means stock intake, Q-Jet, dished pistons, 624 smog heads, .398 lift cam. My 327 peaks @ 6600 RPM and carries it to 7000 RPM. The math says 103 MPH with a 5.13 gear and a 29.50 tire says 6800 RPM with 10 % converter slip, thats how I came up with the 5.13 gear, probably should have went 5.38.

I think you would be better served with 4:30 gears as you will still get the launch you need and will be better on the street. I ran an s10 with 383 / 400 4:30 gears and

14-32 slicks, constantly was in low 10's
A 4.30 gear would put me through @ 5551 RPM, my engine makes peak HP @ 6600 and carries it to 7000 RPM.

This truck with 3.07 gears has been raced many times, always driven to the track (17000) miles over 3 years. Every pass I've ever made with this truck was run over 7000 RPM through the lights in second gear.

Mark, what’s your RT, 60 ft and trap speed?[/QUOTE

RT as good as a .500 as bad as a redlight
60 Foot a very embarrassing 2.10-2.17 it takes hundreds of feet for the 3.07 geared 327 to come on
Best MPH 101.9 running through in second gear 8000 plus DA
