If you're a kid with a truck doing kid with a truck type stuff, it can chew through tires pretty quick and cost a fair amount. I have a set of remolded tires that I'm relatively happy with from these guys (Treadwright). My dad bought a set from Tire Recappers, and they seem to perform fine, but do not look as good on the sidewalls as the Treadwrights. Price is right for me, so just throwing it out there. You can get them in a winter compound that's supposedly much better traction on ice. Being in Texas, I don't have much input on that, but thought it's worth a mention...

Big Yellow has recap MTs on the rear duals and they look good on there. Those treadwrights look pretty good

Thanks for all the suggestions. As far as the mud flaps go, they came on the truck and are one of my favorite parts lol.

I’m in central WI, but the truck was out of Montana. It was a 2 owner truck before I bought it and seems to be pretty well taken care of. I will look into those tires as well as the recaps others mentioned.

You can get cheap army surplus 8.25-16 if you look around. They're heavy duty and around 33" diameter but skinny if that might be an option

If you’re going to be in the mud look at some Goodyear drag slicks as they’ll get you through just as well as the thornbirds.
If just going for looks the thornbirds will be ok.

Yeah mostly going for looks. Most of the only mud it will see is in fields and driving around the farm.

I would like to, but my rims might not be wide enough to mount those tires up properly. Their website says minimum rim width 8 inches. I have not measured mine but I’ve heard most steelies are 6 inches.

They also make a great entry mat to a shop or garage entry door. So I'd say there is some value.

It's great to see a High School age driver of a vintage truck. I probably wouldn't display your front license plate...but I graduated high school in a different century.

This probably isn't exactly what you are looking for but I am running Cooper Discoverer STT Pros on my '87. My factory rally wheels are probably a bit wider than your steelies.

I run those on my 90 Burban and I love them up in the mountains and even a few feet of snow up on the backside of Crown King AZ.
