Mangled Bolt Top Shock Mount?

I’ve never replaced shocks before. The two front shocks have this mangled looking bolt in the outside face of the shock. Other side (inside) of frame is a nut. Any suggestions on how these are removed before I get myself in a pickle?

if it spins I use vice grips. If no vice grips then a pipe wrench will work. It might not even spin if the bushing is stuck on.

Heat the nut, apply impact gun to nut. If that is a no go, smoke wrench next and move on with new shocks and hardware.

Don't sweat it, you got this. Just follow the previous fellers advice, it looks harder than it is.

An ugga dugga will make it easier than by hand.

That's is a regular style stud by the way, although it does look rough. Old shocks and some new ones come with hardware like that.

Thanks, all for great advice. Will give it a shot when torque wrench comes in for new hardware.

Some lower end shocks and all factory shocks come with hardware like that. As squaredeal91 mentioned put vice grips on the outer washer an loosen the nut. Some wd40 or similar will help if you spray the nut an let it soak. When they install that hardware on that they rivit or swedge the end of the stud so it won't ever come apart there. There should also be a hex you can get a wrench on between the shock an frame but sometimes there isn't.

If your new shocks come with a reusable bolt, use RED locktite on the frame to stud nut. You don't want that coming loose as it will damage the frame. Then install the shock on the stud an use BLUE locktite on that nut. The KYB GR2 comes with reusable hardware. With the reusable style the next time the shocks need replaced it will be a 10 min job.

Came off fine with a little elbow grease. Ready for new install. Thanks for all the feedback.
That's a factory shock! My 66 c20 still has its factory shocks too! I'm replacing them sometime though
