Maaco?

I’ve seen Maaco paint peel off in sheets do to nonpreparation. Hell they will paint over bird ****, moldings, trim and windows lol

Lol maybe the prefer the textured look. Most times it looks like they spray house paint on the cars

The shop that did my Suburban had a couple of Maaco cars in to correct orange peel from end to end. It's possible that somewhere there's a Maaco painter that knows what he's doing but it seems more like a place guys work at as a first job.

Have been told they can do good work when you pay them to do it, the $300 specials they run probably barely cover the cost of the paint so no way will they sand,prep,mask and paint it like its a 10k paint job. Why not check you community college to see if they offer an autobody class? A lot of times these classes allow you to work on your own cars for the cost of supplies.

Or let a vocational school do it. It teaches kids a trade and won’t cost much. Some one on here did that and his truck came out super clean. It’s black and silver I just can’t think of who it was.

Can confirm, probably have close to 8 hours just in the deck lid and it is not even painted yet.

Sand it down, prime it and plasticoat it. It lasts 7 to 10 years depending on the climate.

It lasts 7 to 10 months. And doesn't hold up to jack. Trust me, I'm rocking some black plasti and its god awful.

Now for wheeles and trim etc ok I can see it, but it's not made to do a whole car

I've known guys that use Maaco and do all the prep work themselves and basically finish taping the glass in the parking lot. I've never used them myself but I know they have different levels of service. For what they charge on their entry level job I would explore painting the thing myself, otherwise check other body shops. 10k should buy you a hell of a paint job.

Here in Ca, the Air Pollution Control District is hard on painters, body shops can only do spot work, unless they want to spend lots o' bucks on a spray booth. Most of the smaller shops will use Maaco or have a deal with a larger shop for painting.
Painting requires a total prep, that is the major work. A good prep, a Maaco paint job, a buff in a couple of weeks to smooth out orange peel and then a clear coat by Maaco or as spot work, will look awesome.

Since we're on the subject of paint. Had anyone ever heard of the $50 paint job??? As with any paint job, prep work is key. This truck was done with the $50 paint job. IIRC, this was 5 years later and it still looked good.

I'm not so sure I'd paint that Classic car with this method, but I don't think I'll have a problem doing this to my K10/20 truck that's going to be out in the woods getting scuffed and scratched up. Get one of those $10 HF HVLP spray guns and go to work. Don't forget to the cut the paint with 70/30 mix of Rustoleum 70/Mineral Spirits 30. I hear there's a method using Acetone to cut it too. Not sure of the ratio.

I am about to dive in to the $50 paint job, but it requires another $50 in primer+bondo and another $50 in sanding materials. So $150 total
