Totally solid car.
Was quoted 10k by one body shop.
Just want the car to look better.
Moved to Vegas..no more worries about rust..it never rains.
Just want a decent respray.
Any thoughts ?

I has Maaco experience.
A 1976 Delta 88 is very similar to wtfe that blue car is...

Maaco ruined the car.

It developed rust.
It leaked.
The paint peeled.

It never should have been painted, imo. I didn't do it to the car and never in one million years would I have "trusted" Maaco.

Wow, I'd say that body shop is on crack. Tell them to put the pipe down and step away from the lighter.

Or has it just gotten that bad??? It looks straight with some surface rust. Would seem to me $2000 would make it look factory new again, maybe $2500 with a more modern paint job including clear coat.

Ohhh and, Better NOT get MAACO !!!

The ones I've seen look OK the first couple months. Then weather takes affect and within a year it only Fair at best by the end of 2 years it looks like pure hell and even worse and more expensive to get the MAACO job off the car before you can do anything with it, then I could see a $10K paint job just to prep and get the MAACO job off first.

Sand it down, prime it and plasticoat it. It lasts 7 to 10 years depending on the climate.

why not learn to do the work yourself?

i mean painting isnt too hard you may need a few specialty tools like a paint gun and stuff but they dont have to be expensive.

plus you get to learn a new skill. it will turn out better than maaco that way lol.

10k could have been the price from a shop who didnt want the job so they priced it that high. but really i could easily see that getting up in the 6k or higher range if you want the door jams and under side of the hood and stuff painted.

if you just want the outside sprayed then yea a couple grand probably.

I second the diy. Enough careful wet sanding, most people can get a single stage or bc/cc to look ‘good’. Just hit it with a da sander with 400 first and avoid getting down to bare metal.

DA sanders are cheap, but big compressors are expensive. Get an electric one if you don’t already own a big compressor. A 30-50 gallon ought to be enough for the Hvlp.

I work with a lot of guys who are heavily into hot rodding. Multiple project type guys. A lot of them will use Maaco for less important vehicles. But, they do the prep work before they drop the car off. What you need to understand about Maaco, is that they pretty much spray it as it sits. IF, you want it to last, you'll need to pull the trim, treat the surface corrosion, re-prime, and wet sand to get any result close to acceptible before it gets to them.

Lol. The guys at work who've used them, did on their daily driver stuff. They've been happy with the results so far. But, like I said above, they did all the important prep beforehand, and trailored it to them to shoot the color.

I’ve seen Maaco paint peel off in sheets do to nonpreparation. Hell they will paint over bird ****, moldings, trim and windows lol
