Lubing warn hubs?

What does everyone do? Last part to reinstall on my front end.

Read some stuff online about 90w gear oil, others said nothing, some said bearing grease.

Does it matter?

Don't use gear oil or penetrating lube as that stuff will not stay and penetrating oil will break down your wheel bearing grease.

Like Mark says a light coating of clean wheel bearing grease. Trick is to clean them hubs good before recoating with wheel grease. The grease will stay and prevent the plastic parts from wearing. Also a light coating of grease on the rubber seal too.

Well, the ones i have aren't warn, not sure what brand they are. They are sticky and i can't seem to get them better, so i picked up a set of warn standards today. They do have a little grease on the gears, not much though. The move much better

Leave them like that.

Unless you intend to submerge the axle, any more grease than what came from the axle is overkill. Excess grease can cause a hydraulic lock situation and prevent the gears from moving in and out.

A lot of people don't use any grease at all. They just dip the sliding components in 90W gear oil prior to assembly and that's it. Personally, I use a light (brushed on) coat of nickel never-seize and loosen that up with a quick spray of WD-40.

Be aware that, the only time these parts move against each other is when you are actually locking/unlocking the hubs.
