Here is what the new chain looks like for reference. The chain and gears are original to this engine. I have owned the truck since 1988. Original cam gear was aluminum and had nylon covered teeth. GM did that to make the setup quiet.

My new timing chain set is on the way…along with a tool to pull the camshaft pulley off. My current chai. Has about the same amount of slack as edgephoto’s first video

Crank gear does not need to be removed to install a timing chain but cam gear will have to be unbolted.

All the timing gear sets I've ever seen are matched sets........chain and both gears??
