I looked for a tread but only found this one:
https://ck5.com/forums/threads/swapping-k5-to-truck-tailgate-and-lift-glass.334230/
.
I joined that site but have to pay to see the pictures. So not gonna happen.
.
Has anyone done this or know of a thread with pictures. My tailgate has huge cracks in the top and needs welded. The window regulator is stripped. The hand crank is broken. The tailgate handle is also broken. It's missing the inside tailgate cover. So I think it will be easier and cheaper just to install a frame and window from a canopy, topper, camper shell or whatever nomenclature it goes by in your part of the world. I found a 78 ford canopy for 30 bucks. It looks similar. I plan on swapping to a truck tailgate if I do the lift window.
Thanks for any input.

Also this is not a 1 owner garage queen. I will sawzall, hammer, grind, pry bar the absolute **** out of any thing on the mad max wanna be truck to get a semi air tight window before snow starts.

Looks good to me, I don't know what's the big deal...but I bet if you lose the actual trays and only run the magnets? You could stretch it tighter.

I saw some k5 ads in craigslist the other day, i'll check again for ya, hold on.

*I was lookin in Dallas/Fort Worth but I saw this spare tire carrier FOR SALE CHEEP - that's what I was thinkin of.

And there is a guy down there partin out a 78. :(

Good luck

Be honest. Did you have an accidental discharge pulling a gun out of your dash and blow your back window out?

Haha.
"Accidental" was just tired of no rear wiper and a dirty widow. So put a few hollow points through it and fixed that dirty window problem.
.
Dallas is a bit of a ride from oregon for a tailgate. Maybe if it was just in amarillo I'd drop the hammer. Probably spend more on gas than I paid for the k5.

Was just looking at slot where the window goes. Was thinking about cutting the outer part of the slot flush and putting in a piece of plexiglass on piano hinge.
What would you think would be best find a canopy rear window frame or make one from plexiglass?

If it’s temporary you could put a thick piece of lexan in there. You can cut it to the shape you want and maybe ‘temporarily’ glue it in with silicone. At least then you can peel it out if/when you figure something else out.

A softopper would work, but aren’t cheap new.

If your handy with laying up fiberglass, just about any old fiberglass topper could probably be sectioned/channeled to fit.

edit: you beat me to the punch on the plexi. We have a place called tap plastics down here. There are places to buy sheets of plexi around most areas.

Ok. Plexiglass sounds easiest and cheap. I was looking at sheets. Would 1/4" thickness be good? Do I need to build a frame around edges?
