I am Eric. I have an 82 Chevy C-10 lwb. It is a crate 350 with 700r4. I recently had a throttle cable break. I have bought 2 from the local parts house, and I can’t get either one to snap into the firewall. I am pretty mechanically inclined and I am scratching my head. I glued the gasket to the firewall and tried to use a screw driver to flare the ends a bit. It will clip through without the gasket. Any help appreciated !

Push harder. Is the new gasket thicker then the old one?

It isn’t . The same thickness. I’ve had someone hold it and I’ve gotten on the inside and tried to get it pulled through with a screwdriver

Pour some soap on it and push it in with the screw driver, they are tight but it'll pop in..

Welcome aboard btw..
Wow I forgot what this thread was about and saw your reply and was like what the hell? Lol

It's really easy, just clean up around the hole, lubricate the grommet and push it in, might seem like you're going to ruin the grommet but you won't it's pretty stout..

Ok , after a little soap as suggested on the throttle cable , I went inside the cab with a small flat tip screwdriver and held the cable. A little pry and it went easy ! I used some super glue to put the gasket on the firewall after wiping and cleaning it with acetone to remove old debris. Thanks for the advice everyone. This site helped me a lot!
