I put a borgeson quick ratio box on my wifes 69 fastback. It has a nice modern feel with no play. Was plug and play. I also have one on my 74 c20 but not driven yet. On the c20 box I had to grind off a lot of material, the mounting areas where machined way too small so the box didn't sit flush on the frame. Paint a quality is also not great. Not ok for a pricey box.Mustang steering box was purchased 5 years ago, chevy box last year. Looks like a quality drop to me

I’m in the process of installing/upgrading to the 12.7:1 Borgeson box. Although the frame wasn’t cracked I went ahead and welded on the frame braces for additional stiffness for the 35” tires I’ll be putting on. I am running into a fitment issue with the Borgeson box and the side frame brace plate and am having to cut/grind out so far two sections of the side brace plate since the Borgeson protrudes out further than the OEM gearbox in those two areas that are hitting the brace plate preventing the gearbox from bolting up properly. It’s been a bit of a pain but I’m getting there. I also added the Offroad Designs frame support that “triangulates” the frame to the front crossmember providing additional strength. I also am installing the Borgeson U-joint style steering shaft which is much beefier than OEM. Don’t forget to replace the lower steering column bearing kit while you’re at it. Summit racing said they didn’t have the kit for my ‘83 Blazer which includes the retainer spring, the white plastic piece, the bearing and the metal cover ring. Summit tried to sell me the upper bearing instead. I found the kit at Pro Steering Columns in San Antonio. By the way the bearing kit is the same kit that fits on a ‘74 and up Jeep which is probably why Summit couldn’t find the kit for my Blazer as it’s probably only listed in their inventory under Jeep. Good luck!

Update: I gave up on trying to install the Borgeson box since it just would not mount flushly to the frame due to several areas of the box that protrude out further than the factory box and were hitting the frame with or without the weld on frame brace plates. I called Borgeson and sent them photos but they provided no help. So, I called Redhead Steering that told me that they would never recommend the Borgeson 12.7:1 fast ratio for my Blazer because the fast ratio is far too responsive at freeway speeds and the very fast ratio puts much more stress on the front end suspension components. The Borgeson 12.7:1 box is intended more for street/strip applications even though Borgeson recommended it for my Blazer. Therefore, I purchased the 15:1 factory ratio/factory style Redhead box with internals upgraded that will fit properly. I’m returning the Borgeson.

I want a performance feel. I guessing the lower number is better 12:7:1 compared to the CPP 14:1 ratio?
I thought the 14:1 was like a stock ratio?

gear box.
Lower the number the less turns it'll take lock to lock.. we just replaced the box in my son's 74 El Camino, he went from what seemed like 4-5 turns (though I think it claimed to be 3.75-4) at 14.x:1 to 2.5 turns lock to lock at 10:1.

Don't have it fully reassembled/aligned(we replaced everything from the firewall forward minus the engine... tubular control arms, coilovers, brakes, lines, etc etc) but from sitting in the car and working the wheel, engine off no power steering.. it's a HUGE difference.

One thing to look out for though, a lot of the boxes have internal stops because they're not all vehicle specific (regardless of what they state..) The first box he bought only allowed maybe 25° of travel so he sent it back for a different one and now has closer to 45° of movement at the wheels. So if they tell you not to paint it or make modifications or warranty is void, what they mean is "plan to install/remove atleast twice" as most come raw with some flash rust out of the box.
