Switch is most likely, I just had the chance to grab all when I fixed mine. My car had a lot of switch use (and miles), so it made sense.

I would think the switch also. FYI- Relay is behind convenience center at least in my 85

Typically in GM speak, it is the turn signals/flasher/seat belt buzzer and fuse area.

Since the hood can't be readily opened from only the outside, like my Squarebody, here is my parallel wired unlock (only) switch in the back of the truck. Hopefully, it would override enough to get the car opened. Haven't needed it in almost 10 years though.

convenience center is clipped to the bracket above the gas pedal, the convenience center bolts above and to the right of the pedal.

Has cruise control module, hazard flasher, buzzer.

i remember seeing something like this under there but it was much higher up and i thought it was part of the cruise control system i was going to remove that like i did the rest of the garbage they put in there...lil black box looking thing definitely connected to the cruise control or whats left of it.. i had removed the out side parts under the hood and cut the wires that remained as they had been burned up in the engine fire...cant get pic at the moment......

Probably will never know. Just a thought- If it happens again I would make sure the relay is grounded good. The original relay is grounded by it's casing.
Thank you for the advice. I didn’t know they had a relay. I thought it was straight power to the switches from the fuse box. Where’s the relay(s) located?
And another question as it sounds like you are very familiar with them, if they have a relay and the trigger power to the relay is switched through the ignition, my windows work all the time, even with the key off.
I suspected at some point they were re-wired to constant power, however the window power wires from the fuse box are switched (whichever one pink one, or idk was comparing to a wiring diagram) and everything tests out switched or not switched at the fuse box.
However nothing looks to be re-wired. All factory.
Maybe the relay is stuck latched?
Appreciate the help if you have suggestions

Images from my 85. Door locks have a relay. Original windows do not.

funny thing about my door locks was when i disconnected the battery they still would not open........

@Grit dog sometimes people add relays to windows to give them direct power from battery- when they do they USUALLY use the original window circuit to activate the relays. If someone added relays they are usually in the door under the arm rest & there should be wires running directly to battery with fuses in them.

Similar thing happened to me working at the yard. I was pulling interior parts on something and couldn't get out of the pos. Good thing it ain't summer.
