The LMC tach is a replacement tach for a tach cluster. It doesnt work with a stadard gauge cluster.

Unless you have a distributor-less ignition, it will work. All the tach needs is a signal from the dist. to register RPM. Fuel injection has nothing to do with it.

I've been wondering about that tach/fuel gauge unit too. Is there something different about the back of the 1987 and up VSS clusters that makes them bill that unit as only fitting 1986 and lower? I haven't pulled the cluster out of my 91 Burb yet to look, but it would be really cool if I could install that tach in it - just don't want to spend $200 on an experiment....

They made them for the med duty trucks. Lots of threads on installing them, no info on the correct signal to make them work.

Most of them ran off a flywheel gear tooth counter.

the ones with built in fuel gauges right?

Im saying could someone go to the dealer to buy a brand new truck and check off the 6.2 diesel box, along with the tachometer box?
