K5 Blazer values… possibly buying 86 k5

Considering buying this. Guy will take $6k. Have yet to go see it as it’s an hour or more away. What’s a fair price?

Seems pretty rust free but lots of miles and stripper model.

1986 chevy k5 blazer carbureted 305 700r4 transmission (3 speed with overdrive) tires fairly new 80% recent R12-R134A ac conversion new floor mats new bucket front seat covers everything works runs perfect recent tuneup drives straight as a arrow down Hwy 98000 miles on odometer according to title it should be 198000 I've owned this blazer for10 years have driven very little has 4" lift with rancho suspension has spare mounted in rear cargo area needs carpet have new rubber door seals that go with it original paint you won't find a nicer blazer for the money

I own a 79 k10 and if I go checkout the blazer, will check the frame for cracking at steering box and rear upper shock mounts. Any other things to check besides a test drive of course and rear window operation.

I think that's a fair price. It looks complete and unmolested. You don't have to undo someone else's "improvements"

I watched an old Truck U episode on YouTube and they were all about huge lift and cowl hood. Not for me. I’d prob put 33” tires on this and leave the 4” lift unless it rides like crap. I put tuff country springs on my k10 and it rides pretty good for a short wheelbase squarebody. From the reading I’ve done the 305 is a turd. I have a spare 600cfm edelbrock carb and a 2701 intake but not sure if that would be worth it. Just swap in a 350 or 400.

Both the steering frame crack and rear shock bolt cracks are an easy fix if you have a welding machine.
For rear window operation, I would opt to do a truck tailgate swap and a soft top.
The center console is missing, but a Tuffy in tan would fit right in.

Seems like the market is finally cooling off? I wish it was a higher trim and had the 350 but I have the old 400 out of my k10 I could freshen up and drop in.

Of course it always looks better in photos than it actually is but I’m going to see if I can test drive it tomorrow afternoon.

So ya’ll are saying if it runs and drives well 6k is a good price.

A buddy of mine tried to buy my '77 K5 that needs engine work a couple years ago. He kept offering a larger amount because I kept saying no, lol. He finally gave up at 10k. So that tells me the market for a decent K5 is currently pretty strong.

The hardest work for backyard DIY is body work, so if it doesn't have any significant rust it should be definitely worth $6k. All the mechanical work (including power train swaps) can be done with a fairly small amount of standard tools if you have the space to work. It is not a highly optioned K5, but I wouldn't really call it a stripper, since its got A/C and a 4 speed overdrive automatic.

Looks solid, getting rid of the running boards and putting a nice set of wheels on her would make a world of difference.

Looks to be in pretty nice shape compared to some I've seen out there lately. It has the manual crank rear window- which I like. The electric ones were never as reliable. Seemed to like to quit when the window was down and it was about to rain...

I had a 1986 K5 and my dad had a 1987 K5 when I was in high school. One thing I liked a lot more on the '87 was how "simple" the engine looked on his. It was the first year of fuel injection and it cleaned up the engine nicely. If the '86 still is all original like it appears to be that carburetor had all kinda of crap on and around it. Vacuum lines and what not. Not nearly as clean and simple like the '76 K5 I used to have.

But that could be removed and just put an aftermarket carb on it to clean it up and simplify.

6k seems fair. That K5 would be 15 - 20K in Austria. Get a soft top, I love my Soft Topper.
