I’m looking to purchase this transfer case and wanting to double check with my fellow experts here.

32 spline round pattern 205.

Looks like a direct swap in place of a round pattern 32 spline 208.Need confirmation since the deal is several hrs away.I know it will take driveline mods.

mated to what transmission?

I'm asking because it depends if you need a short input spline or long input spline. That 205 has the long spline. Not sure what your 208 would have. But round is round and figure 8 is figure 8 so you're good there.

Also,what’s the difference between the short and long foot adapters besides the obvious in the names and length of mounting base?

You should be good with the mounting. Your 208 should have the long input mated to the 465 and given the pic it looks like the 205 has the long input.

As far as the adapters is have to make an educated guess. I know the early trucks used a drop down crossmember and a long foot on the adapter. I believe the newer trucks had a flatter crossmember with a shorter foot. This was also when they went from the 2pc mount to the single mount.

No, not really. The 465 got the 32 spline output starting in '81 on the 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. The 465 in the 1 ton trucks retained the 10 spline output all the way through '84, then got the 32 spline in '85 when the np205 was changed to the round pattern.

There was no 'across the board' change to 32 spline inputs. It actually never happened at all. The 208 used behind the th350 and 700r4 always had a 27 spline input.

Watch for the adapter. Even though both are round and for the 465, I believe the 208 adapter does not have the shifter mounting boss cast into it that the 205 adapter does. Mine did not.

900$ for the case.

and that’s right on the boss for the shifter,the older hourglass adapter does have that built in.So what’d you do?Weld a bung?

No, I was already going into the transmission, so I put in the 10 spline shaft and older adapter. It was just going to be easier and cheaper. I was a bit younger and and money was quite a bit more tight.

I love the 205... eats rocks!

I highly suggest you twin stick it. One for the rear, one for the front. Not like you live in mountainous terrain but what the heck?
