LOL! I only deal in the early 6.2s 82-83 B/c that's what I have and what's interchangeable

82-83 so are the 84 up a different animal? Think they added an EGR around there??

I don’t know why you’d want to limit yourself? You know that one is going to the scrapyard when someone gets the trans and transfer case out of the deal. I would have thought you’d want to save it. #6.2islife.
Usually yes, But Considering 82 Was the first year for the motor, Probably hands down the best year and almost Bulletproof They are the Rarest year and not only Worth more but hard to find, I can usually part one out and make almost $1300 Or Rebuilt it and sell around for $2000.

The matter of the fact is. Later 6.2s are Dime a Dozen. It's the early ones that are getting scarce.

In 1982 that was the first year for the 6.2, Only year for Spin-On Fuel Filter, Coarse Thread Injectors & Red Block Paint Also EGR >>(Myth)<< all 1/2 Tons used EGR from 82 - 93... There are other things too Like the Flange, Thread In Glow Plug controller that was used all though from 82-84, after that they changed it to a Plugin type.

Good thing I didn't get started collecting Olds Diesels yet! LOL Yes... oh yes I do love those.
Have a friend in TX who's wife has a 86 Cutless Cierra with the 4.3 V6 FWD Diesel in it, He fixed all the kinks out of it and she gets nearly 43 MPG he'd said. Talk about nuts!!

Sounds like my ‘81 VW 1.8 gas that I did nothing to. No kinks and it was in a much better car. I guess we’ve all got our own thing, right? I mean, who wouldn’t want a boat anchor engine with all the horsepower and torque of 4.3l V6 with 10 times the maintenance?!? I really find it hard to believe GM made an engine for 2 years and said “wow, this thing is too good, let’s make the next run of 6 or 8 years shittier.”

Well actually, the really bad Olds Diesels was only until 81, When they came out with the DX Block which fixed the Head bolts & studs.

Before the D Block used 350 Head studs and only 4 head bolts Which over time the studs Shrinked and blew head gaskets.
You guys amuse me over this stuff, They are good engines if you'd listen to the truth... but most of you dumbwits will learn in the future and then you'll be the embarrassed ones when you find out how good they are. I've seen them all over craigslist again. They are coming back alive & with the help to my Friend Michael, he's been trying to buy the Patients & Name from GM... Guy has over 4 storage barns full of Engines, NOS parts, & Complete cars Not to mention he has 3 different states he stores stuff in.

Big Bulky V8s :laughing1:just don't do it anymore for Mileage or any of that matter... Times changed... I do like these new vehicles all under 5.0L and the new Chevy truck with a 3.0L Diesel.. efficient! (If it was Mechanical) HA.

Other than that, yeah I'd run one no problemo.

Them DX blocks are still sought after, but not for Diesels, for gas conversions for the racers. Mondellos even has a stroker kit for them to get 440 Cubes out of that small block Olds.

If I came across one of the early A-bodies with the 4.3 diesel, I'd try to buy it IF it was in good running condition. I don't have the special know-how to doctor them puppies up and parts for them are really hard to find.
