The door chime one is a weird one though. Any idea why the door chime would stay on, if the headlights are on? I guess I'll comb through it tomorrow when I pull the dash, the door panel, and the gauge bezel.
Because sometime in the distant past, one engineer of questionable heritage thought it would be funny to curse a whole generation of vehicle owners/DIY by running as many auxillary circuits through the HL wiring as possible. Then, when the grounds go funky, noone with a logical brain can come close to figuring out where the circuit has gone South.

Im rebuilding everything. I was thinking yesterday what would be the first thing I found wrong, or broke, or put together incorrectly when I do my first drive. I shudder to think of the possibilities.

Is the door chime hooked up backwards? It will do the opposite of what it should do if it is.

I was an ASE Tech beginning in the 80s. I worked on a lot of these trucks new. I had an 88 S10 last week that had a bad fuel pump. A fuel pump, filter, relay, oil pressure switch, ignition control module, PCM, 3 fuses, a fusible link, two grounds, a battery, 6 vacuum hoses and 8 days later I drove it out of my pole barn and into the yard, and not in that order. Three wrenches and a 10mm socket that were laying on the radiator shroud also disappeared, and I suspect the truck knows where they are at.

Haha yeah I've noticed that about these old trucks. Sometimes they'll fix themselves. Maybe it happens on a lot of vehicles but usually I'm not that lucky.

I did fix the radio today though. Apparently it was a blown fuse. Now just fix the door chime, gauges, and power window and I'll be back on top!

The chime stays on if the headlights are on and the ignition is off? That's how it's supposed to be.

There is some alternate dimension...some black hole that has approximately 40% of all my purchased tools, nuts, bolts, and socks. I now save the "repurchase" button on amazon.

It doesn't matter what you do, if the lights are on the chime is on. Truck can be running.

But I may as well use this thread to ask another question: What are all the different chimes you can get? In another thread, someone mentioned that some of the old cadillac door chimes sounded pretty cool. I wish I could hear them.

I'd be curious to know what all chimes will fit into the slot. I know the factory one is that horrible screeching sound. Like a pissed off cicada.

Strange that Your chime is acting up. I have never seen one act up always worked perfect, outlasted any other part on the Damn car or truck.. Ell I was in a junkyard the other day and I heard this beeeeb bbeeeb sound, Got to looking around and found a pickup cab just the cab, No frame , ft end or batt. Just the cab and one door. Yep it was doing the beeping. Well I closed the only door on it and the beeping stopped , As I walked away the beeping started up again, Well I went back and looked closer at it and ell someone had left the keys in it too.....

I thought doing everything twice was part of being a hobbyist with an antique truck.

I don’t usually spent twice the money I expect to, but I almost always spend twice the time.

Yeah but damned if I didn't have a streak going. I used to have to do everything twice, didn't really matter what vehicle it was on. Slowly got better as the years went by, but the antique truck is giving me grief. LOL!

To be fair, most of my added time is due to add on “wouldn’t that be nice” work. So I set out to replace the plugs and wires and end up doing a partial block cleanup “while I’m in there.”

Yeah I do the same thing. It's really for the best, because if you don't do all that extra work, the antique truck is that much closer to falling apart. It's really preventative maintenance.

Does your interior light work with the door? Could have something you
To do with the chime you speak of. Is it a chime or a buzz?
