Was looking online, and found this. Its a square with shackles on the front sides of leaf springs. I had never seen this done before.

I've seen it done on Willy's jeeps but not on a truck. Not sure if it's safe or not.

As long as the shackles are sturdy it won't hurt nothing but it could throw off caster/pinion.

I was wondering about the axle movement. Having a shackle on the front and the rear of the leaf spring, would let the axle move horizontally.

depends what's on the rear of those springs. you CAN NOT have shackles on both ends of leaf springs. the fixed mount of leaf springs weather in the front or rear of the spring is what keeps the axle going straight going down the road. highdesertranger

I have heard of shackles front and rear of springs but only with another method like links to locate the axle. With the shackles on the front and solid mounted in the rear the axle tends to move forward during spring compression its not much but it could have an effect on bump steer depending on the steering setup. Thats my understanding anyway.

Ya definitely not a good idea except for bush use only! You would have front end chatter like no tomorrow!
