is this the factory steering box? If so does anybody know that model or kit number to rebuild it?

Looks like it just get a reman from a quality supplier. cheaper doesn’t mean it’s better ,nor does more expensive make it better. do your research

That's quite ambitious. I'd just swap it, myself, but if you do your homework, the world is your oyster. I imagine there are a lot of ball bearings. I'm not exactly sure how these things get sloppy so I'd be mindful of the fix for that. Every rebuild kit is gonna come with a ton of o-rings so I think you'll be covered there.

A 12:1 ratio box is available and you don't have it.
Ummm...besides, I bet ONE MILLION DOLLARS that you want to rebuild it because of your "rag joint", not the steering box.

G Body Saginaw box? Good point here.

The XJ intermediate steering shaft swap gets rid of that crappy rag joint and replaces it with a universal joint. It uses the same column 'D' end and Saginaw splined end as the Jeep. It's very easy. You just get a shaft from the junkyard, heat it up to compress it, lengthen it while it's still warm so it fits properly, and bolt it in. The years you want are 1984-96, I believe, and no Grand Cherokee shafts. It works on for sure on 1979 and later squares; GMT400s through '96; and B, G, F Bodies. I feel like there was something else, but I'm too tired to recall at the moment.
