Is a 10 bolt a direct replacement for a dana 44

My dana 44 is junk and i have a line on a 10 bolt for cheap, are there any differences is mounting them? Is it a direct replacement?

It's a Chevrolet !!! Of course it'll bolt right in. So long as it's a Squarebody axle, it'll bolt in a Squarebody truck.

73-87 Trucks, and 73-91 Burbs, Blazers and Jimmys, 1/2 and 3/4 tons will bolt right in.

just out of curiosity why is your 44 junk? in my personal opinion the 44 is better. I have seen too many 10 bolt failures. highdesertranger

I've heard of a **** ton of 10 bolt rears biting the dust on big tire trucks, but as far a D44 and 10b fronts, real close to equal if not so, and I'd really expect to see more 10 bolt fronts fail to D44's being the 10 bolts are much more common. At least it seems that way. I wouldn't pass up a D44 though, just like I wouldn't a 10 bolt.

Nonetheless, good questions. If the D44 can be patched up for fairly cheap, run it. If this 10b you have will need regeared to match your rear, prolly just as well to do it to the D44.
