Intake Resonator

Howdy,

I'd post this in the wanted section, but I don't believe I have enough forum posts / responses yet. I've been trying to track down an intake resonator (with hoses and clamps) for a 6.2L diesel for about a month. They appear to be as rare as hens teeth.

I also called / emailed a few salvage yards I found online in the southern states. Unfortunately the ones that did reply basically said the same thing.. "Have not seen one in a while".

My truck is a 1984 M1028 (K30) J code engine and the military either removed or never ordered these trucks with a resonator. While shopping around I was sure to specify any GM vehicle (SUV, Pickup, Van) that had the 6.2L engine. If anyone has a setup they are willing to part with or has any suggestions on where to find one it would be appreciated.

I have searched ebay and all over the web. I called local salvage yards as well, and due to the salt up here they don't have a lot of older vehicles around.

Intake resonator is similar to an exhaust resonator. The resonator blocks some resonant frequencies and prevents droning noise from the intake side of your engine.

Most all modern vehicles have them. Some people who put on a cold air intake will remove the intake hose and box included. The box on newer vehicles is usually the resonator. This makes them drone louder.

In our M1028 it gets pretty noisy in the cab at certain RPM's. I popped the hood and played with the throttle. I could hear a good deal of noise from the intake.

Here's a picture of a resonator installed in a 6.2. It looks like a big muffler next to the air filter housing. In this image it's also missing another piece of hose that would extend to the front grill I believe.

cucv had j code diesels, only c code trucks had those resonators

To widen your search, I seem to remember '82-'86 GM a-body cars having those, if they had the 2.5 four cylinder engine. That's Century, Ciera, Celebrity, and 6000.

Yup, there it is! Although it looks like in that pic it might be a slightly smaller resonator.

I bought an 82 1 ton j code for the engine and it has one. it's a civilian though. sorry but it's not for sale at the moment. the engine is going in my 78 1 ton. highdesertranger
