Hey guys i started having intermittent starting problems where id turn the key and nothing happened and then all the sudden it would start. I put in a new ignition cylinder lock, but the only problem is the old one was held in with a little clip at the bottom and it was missing the bolt that runs along the side to lock it in place. The new one doesnt have the little clip so it wont stay in the column. Does anyone know how i can get the thing that holds the key cylinder in place. I dont even know what to call that part.

I doubt it and they would probably look at you like you have 3 eyes on your face if you asked. Any bone yards close to you. That would probably be your best bet.

Actually you could make one, just get a bolt the appropriate length and take a section of thread off..

50? jeeze louise. Reminds me of the other time i had an ignition problem and needed 1 zener diode and could only buy in packs of 50 or a 100. I guess Ill poke around the picknpulls. Any ideas on which vehicles would match? squarebodys are gettin rare in the junkyard here. Would i need to look for one that also had steering wheel tilt? or does it matter

I'm going out on a limb to say that that lock cylinder has been replaced before and if it had the clip on the end and no retaining bolt, either 1 or 2 things happened. Someone replaced that column with an older column for that truck which should be 84 and up, or they just stuffed the wrong damn lock cylinder in there for the older column instead of the correct cylinder for the multifuncion switch column. Is this a tilt or non tilt wheel? That too can make a difference in some GM models. Not sure about the trucks.

This is a tilt wheel. the old cylinder doesnt have the slot for the retaining bolt, so i bet they just tossed it.

Should be able to find what you need on any GM column around your year at a yard

Doesn’t have to be a truck is what I was getting at.
